boundless versatility

  1. Can anyone become a member of a medical aid scheme?
If you can afford the monthly premium, then, definitely. Medical aid schemes are not allowed to reject any applicants but there may be a waiting period when you first apply.

  2. Does cover start immediately?
There is usually a three-month waiting period but, if you change from one medical aid scheme to another with no break in cover, then your coverage is continuous.

  3. Does my employer have to contribute towards my medical aid?
No, your employer is not forced to do so by law but some employers do contribute a percentage.

  4. What is a medical savings account?
Your day-to-day medicines and doctor’s visits are taken out of your savings account, i.e. out of hospital expenses.

  5. What is a comprehensive plan?
A comprehensive plan covers your medical savings, in-hospital expenses and chronic medication. It also usually has the highest level of benefits.
